Description

“Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.” –Mark Jenkins

The Rough Idea!

Well the rough idea so far is to board the ferry at Newhaven 5th May 9:30am and drive approximately 6,000 miles round the outside of Europe to arrive in Northern Cyprus by October-ish. Then we have a two month tour of the east coast of Australia throughout December and January, stopping off for a couple of days in Hong Kong on the return journey. We will then collect Bee again in Cyprus, and drive her back through the middle of Europe - About 10,000 miles in total excluding Australia! Of course it could (and probably will) all change again a few times over the coming days and no doubt change again as we get going. We hear books are running for pinpointing Bee's first breakdown - shame on you! - I have faith...... but one hope I hold on to, is that it should be somewhere sunnier and warmer than here!

Beautiful day for booting

Today we went to our first boot fair of the season, aided by Sarah and Ryan (whom we couldnt have done it without). We managed to get rid of a car load of junk and raise a whopping £185!! So thanks guys. Trouble is, it has only highlighted just how much useless rubbish I have accumulated over the years. A long task ahead to clear the house, but thankfully I am now officially a jobless 'bum' and so have full days to get stuck in. yee hah!

Second star sign poised to go on the vehicle - my scorpion car sticker has arrived. Think it should go on the back - sting in the tail and all that!

T-32 days!!!!! argh!!!!

Time to get this blog up and running again. (so you can all quit whinging! :-)) Have only one week left at work, and then it's panic stations. hehehe. Had our first aid course yesterday which seemed to go pretty well, I think I can at least now manage to put the old man into the recovery position after a few too many ciders; ....and probably more likely, he can do the same for me!
Ant has been hard at work on the bus... new shocks, new brakes (with lots of swearing) and a renovated roof rack which looks fantastic. We also now have a sexy new steering wheel after the last one broke all by itself!! We bought it (along with a hideously expensive, but gorgeous polished boss) at the Volksworld show in Sandown yesterday. Also bought some orange indicator lenses, new foot pedal covers and some brake adjustment something-or-other bungs (small bits of rubber to plug holes in metal to us girlies) but apparently worth the hour we spent trawling round the exhibitors, me with a hideous cold and a constant stream of snot pouring from red raw nostrils!
I can't work out if the to-do list is getting longer or shorter at the moment, but it certainly feels like things are getting done. I have my International Driving Permit (Ant's hasnt arrived yet!! lol) and we have both had our first round of injections, only Rabies and some Japanese Enpha.... something to go! We have booked our flights to Aus and added a couple of days stopover in Hong Kong on the return journey. Also bought a new awning on EBay recently which is much more in keeping with the bus.. i.e. its ancient, expensive, cream and brown!... perfect. :-)

Bee's rescue

We have pretty much completed the house now, only the carpets left to clean. Which meant Ant could have a weekend down here in Sussex in front of the fire. It also meant he could finally move Bee off the lawn where she was slowly being buried under falling leaves! She is now back on the driveway again where she will spend the winter.
Ant also took the fridge out again which we discovered wasnt working and bought it indoors to test it as per the manufacturers suggestions, and in typical sod's law fashion, the fridge worked fine when plugged into the house Grrrr.
Clocks went back last night, making the nights nearer and the days shorter but also makes us another milestone closer to the big day. Yippee!!!
Unfortunately my self defence class was cancelled last week though, (not enough attendees) and typically we are already booked on a first aid course on the day they have rescheduled it for. Will have to start hunting for another.
